Case Study: High specification drillship with proven
ultra deepwater and MPD operations
The also feature a full dual derrick with 1,250 st hookload capacity and a hoisting/compensation system combining both an active heave drawworks and a crown mounted compensator. Two off 7 ram BOP’s reduces the risk of downtime and increases operational flexibility.
Since delivery by Hyundai Heavy Industries 2014, The Bolette Dolphin has served Andarko Petroleum Company for 3 consecutive years offshore West Africa and Colombia. An operational success from day one, built on trust and partnership through multiple years of operation, also previously with the Belford Dolphin (5th generation ultra deepwater drillship).Throughout the years, the ship has executed a wide variety of operations as drilling, completion, testing (DST) and not the least Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD).
An MPD operation comprise installation of a significant amount of new equipment calls for changes to operational procedures and is hence a demanding process involving several stakeholders. The execution, from initial planning to the actual drilling of the wells, proved a great success, largely due to a very good and efficient cooperation between the various stakeholders, but not the least our highly skilled rig team and a ship well laid out to accommodate the new equipment. Significant time and cost saving was achieved.
With 15 years of continuously strong operations in the ultra deepwater segment, breaking barriers in frontier areas, Dolphin Drilling has a robust fundament for writing new success stories with the Bolette Dolphin.
